Italy is no longer competing in the ongoing Euro 2024 competition in Germany.
In the opening Round of 16 match on Saturday, the reigning champions fell short 2-0 against Switzerland.
The Swiss took the lead through Remo Freuler after controlling 65% of the ball and eight of the previous nine shots on goal.
Shortly after the restart, Ruben Vargas extended their lead after the Italians lost possession of their own kick-off.
Switzerland will now play Slovakia or England in the quarterfinal in Dusseldorf the following weekend.
After winning the competition, Italy is currently the third team in the last three European Championships to be ousted in the round of 16.
