Prof Kingsley Moghalu, a former presidential contender, has decried the state’s disregard for Nigerians.
Moghalu said this when thinking on how security agencies handled the current hardship demonstration, claiming that operatives showed wanton disregard for the protestors’ lives.
He criticized security personnel for being programmed to protect the dictatorship rather than people and property.
The blazing protest to eliminate bad governance in the country has entered its sixth day, resulting in deaths, arrests, property destruction, and looting, despite requests from President Bola Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians for the protesters to stop their demonstrations across the country.
The former presidential candidate responded on his X handle, saying, “@PoliceNG and other security agencies in Nigeria have an unfortunate mindset.” Their top objective is regime security, not the safety of Nigerian lives and property. That is why they have a callous disdain for demonstrators’ lives, and why kidnapping and terrorism are prevalent.
“If they confronted criminals with the zeal and dedication they show towards civilians protesting hunger, our security situation would be dramatically different and better. Regardless of political rhetoric, the Nigerian state shows little regard for its citizens,” he stated.
