How To Apply For A Job In Canada Through Express Entry

The Canadian Express Entry System is the most efficient way to immigrate to Canada. It began in 2015, allowing skilled individuals and their families to relocate to Canada in six months.

During the pandemic, the Canadian government increased the number of permanent residence permits available to potential immigrants already living and working in Canada while also launching measures to expedite the process for essential workers and international students.

This resulted in a significant backlog of potential immigrants in 2021, prompting Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to revise their selection criteria, prioritizing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for persons currently living and working in Canada.

In the first quarter of 2022, Canada could only issue 7,257 ITAs, compared to 43,840 in the first quarter of 2021.

However, not all is lost. Following the rules outlined in this article and other relevant information will give you the best chance of gaining quick entry to Canada.

Do you want to live permanently in Canada?

It’s easy to see why people worldwide make Canada their permanent home. Immigrating to Canada to live and work is an exciting prospect, given the country’s high standard of living, world-class education, and robust economy.

It may appear to be a simple decision, but there are several ways to apply for immigration to Canada.

There are several options for permanent residence, and choosing the right path is not always straightforward.

That is where EETT can help you make the proper selections and navigate your path to permanent residency in Canada or the Live and Work in Canada-Canada Express Entry application.

Employment Opportunities

Unemployment in Canada is 8.4% (August 2015). It is crucial to realize that obtaining a work permit and immigration permission does not guarantee employment, even if you are highly skilled.

There is currently a demand in accounting and finance, aerospace, agriculture, biotechnology, chemical manufacture, construction, healthcare and social care, ICT and e-commerce, mining, and food services.

Job Applications and Work in Canada Express Entry Application

A résumé in Canada is typically two pages in length. Remember to tailor your résumé to the position you are applying for, focusing on topics relevant to the job.

Online applications are becoming more prevalent and require just as much care. A brief application email in a formal style should accompany your résumé.

One-on-one and panel interviews are prevalent in Canada. Although it is not required to provide copies of your degrees/diplomas with your application, you are encouraged to have them for the interview.

Temporary work

Often, the best approach to locating short-term work is to stroll into a shop, restaurant, bar, or hotel and ask for the management. Even if they don’t currently have any openings, leave your CV.

If you are traveling with an international exchange organization, they will advise and assist you in organizing work and lodging.

Their directories include postings from employers looking for part-time and summer employees, which helps to alleviate some of the stress associated with job hunting.

Internships are excellent ways to gain practical experience in your subject of study in another nation.

Visas

For the first six months, Irish citizens are not required to obtain a visa to visit, study, or conduct business in Canada.

All that is needed is a return ticket and enough money to cover your stay. You will need a visa if you want to work or study for an extended period.

Check out Canada’s official Citizenship and Immigration website, which includes information and application procedures for temporary and permanent immigrants.

If you want to work temporarily in Canada, you must get a work permit. This is usually only supplied when a Canada Employment Centre has confirmed a job offer.

Usually, the employer must demonstrate that a Canadian citizen or resident cannot fill the position. However, some jobs are accessible without the need for a work permit.

For individuals seeking a more permanent transfer, options include skilled workers, business, and family-class immigration.

At this level, immigration is based on a point system. Applicants must meet particular criteria and gain enough points in various categories, including education, language ability, job experience, age, arranged employment flexibility, and reaching the minimum financial need.

Additional points are provided for Canadian family links. Visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website for the most up-to-date information and a self-assessment tool to determine whether you qualify as a skilled worker.

Quebec’s government works with the Canadian government to choose its immigrants. If you want to work in Quebec, you may need to obtain a Certificate d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) from the Quebec government.

Most Canadian provinces have an agreement with the federal government that allows them to take a more direct role in immigration selection. Applications must be addressed directly to the province.

Student visas

A study visa/permit is required if you plan to study in Canada for six months or longer or intend to work part-time on campus.

To be eligible for a study visa, you must be accepted by a Canadian university, college, or technical school, have a valid passport, show that you can support yourself while studying in Canada, and show that you intend to return home when your studies are completed.

To be eligible, you must be a Nigerian citizen living in Nigeria between the ages of 18 and 35, have no criminal record, and have enough money to cover expenditures during your initial stay in Canada.

Work Permits

Suppose you are a student or under 35. In that case, you can visit Canada under the Student Work & Travel Programme/Canada Work & Travel Programme Canada under 35 Programme, which permits you to live and work in Canada for up to a year.

The Work in Canada program is flexible, allowing you to enter the country without a job lined up. However, doing some research online before your trip could be beneficial.

There are no constraints on the type of work you perform, where you do it, or how many occupations you can hold simultaneously.

Your work visa does not cover camp counseling or tobacco picking, but medical, health, childcare, or housekeeping positions require a medical examination.

Remember that if you wish to work in Quebec, you must have excellent written and spoken French skills.

How To Apply For A Job In Canada Through Express Entry

Step 1: Get an ITA

You must strictly adhere to the application process to maximize your chances of acquiring an ITA.

The most crucial aspect of the process is to determine your eligibility for immigration. There are numerous eligibility criteria you must meet. The two main issues that could make you disqualified for the Express Entry Program are:

  • A criminal record
  • A serious medical condition

Step 2: Choose your Express Entry Program

If you are unaffected by either concern, build an Express Entry profile and apply to one of the three programs.

●     Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP)

This program has a minimal criterion based on age, skilled work experience, education, language, flexibility, and a current employment offer.

Your attributes are all scored on a scale of 100 points, with a pass mark of 67.

The Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP) is open to skilled workers with a one-year job offer or certification from a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal body.

These jobs are classified using the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

●     Canada Experience Class (CEC)

This session is for people with at least one year of work experience in Canada in their skilled occupation.

If you qualify for one of these categories, you can apply for the Express Entry pool online. Your eligibility will be assessed based on the criteria listed above to determine your Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS), which will place you in comparison to other Canadian immigration candidates.

Step 3: Meet the Language and Education Standards.

You must meet Canadian qualifications and language proficiency standards to be considered eligible for Express Entry to Canada.

Language requirement

The next step in your application procedure is to take Canadian language examinations.

The Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) requires English speakers to take one of the following examinations to determine their language level:

  • CELPIP: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program. This is the top English proficiency test in Canada.
  • IELTS: International English Testing System. This is the most widely recognized test inside the Express Entry system.
  • The IELTS score is more useful because it is much easier to convert to a CLB. To apply for the FSWP, you must have a minimum CLB score of 7, and for the FSTP, a minimum CLB score of 5.

If you meet the IELTS criterion for Express Entry, it will contribute towards your CRS. There are other tests for French speakers.

Those who excel at both English and French tests receive the highest language scores.

The French tests are:

  • TEF Canada: est d’évaluation de français
  • TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français

Education requirement

Passing the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is a critical component of the success of your application for quick entry to Canada.

You must demonstrate that your qualifications are legitimate, equal to, or comparable to a Canadian qualification.

This significantly influences your ultimate CRS score and the success of your application. If you want to apply for the FSTP, you must be evaluated by a Canadian regulatory agency.

Invitation To Apply (ITA)

When you receive your CRS score, you can determine whether you have met the program’s standards for which you applied.

You will then be entered into the Express Entry pool, where you must keep up with the Express Entry draws.

These occur every two weeks, and you will be notified if you have been issued an ITA for permanent residency in Canada.

The CRS requirements change with each draw, so just because you didn’t qualify for this doesn’t imply you won’t be eligible again.

Step 4: Provide documentation.

After passing the pool and receiving your ITA, you have 60 days to gather the documentation required for your application to be accepted. You must provide appropriate, current, and legitimate paperwork to apply for express admission to Canada.

You will need the following:

  • Passport
  • Birth Certificates
  • This can be substituted with an affidavit if necessary.
  • National Occupation Classification (NOC)
  • Education Credential Assessment Report (ECA)
  • Proof of civil status
  • Recent language tests
  • Proof of settlement funds
  • Verification that you’re eligible to enter Canada
  • Police clearance certificates
  • Results of a medical exam ordered by certified health experts.
  • Work experience documentation. Reference letters (for all positions in the last 10 years), copies of all employment contracts and pay stubs
  • Two digital photographs of you, your spouse/common-law partner, and dependent children
  • Canadian job offer
  • Letter of employment
  • Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) number

Step 5: Keep Your Information Up To Date

Once you’ve finished the process, filed your application, and increased your CRS score, all that remains is the Express Entry processing period.

The Canadian government is significantly more efficient than most, and your application will most likely be processed within 6 months.

There are a few reasons that can lengthen the Express Entry processing time, which you should be aware of, such as:

  • Unverified information
  • Security or criminal issues
  • More background checks are needed
  • Unclear family situation
  • Incomplete divorce or adoption proceeding
  • Unresolved child custody issues
  • More documentation or an interview is required

Most of these issues are caused by the applicant’s failure to provide adequate information.

You must keep your information, including anything that may affect your CRS score, up to date using the IRCC Webform.

Check your application status online using the IRCC-protected accounts site.

Express Entry processing timeframes vary depending on the number of applications, system load, and number of applicants eligible to get ITAs.

FAQs

Do I need a job offer to qualify for Express Entry?

No. However, depending on the job, it will increase your CRS score by 10 to 200 points. Not getting a job offer may lower your score.

However, you can pass the exam if you perform well in all other areas.

What is the maximum age to apply for Express Entry to Canada?

There is no maximum age; however, if you are 45 or older, you will not receive any CRS points.

However, if you are over 18 and under 45, you will receive points for your youth and experience. As a result, those aged 20 to 29 score the most points.

Do I get Permanent Residence with Express Entry?

Yes, your ITA is for a permanent residence visa. The express entry mechanism is intended to grant candidates a permanent resident visa if they pass the vetting process, which is why it takes months to process.

Conclusion

To gain express entrance to Canada, you must plan, be patient, and show some care and attention toward your goal.

If you are an eligible applicant, obtaining your Canadian visa may be the quickest route.

However, it is up to the luck of the draw. Doing as many tests, inspections, and procedures as feasible is critical.

You must meet standards such as IELTS for Express Entry. Show your best side to the Canadian authorities, and who knows?

You could arrive in Canada six months before the Express Entry processing time.
